Fertiliser comparison query R Chengappa

Q. My friend is a farmer growing toor and soyabean in Maharashtra. Our land size is nearly same. He uses much less fertiliser than me. Still he says his crops are growing well. Why is that?

A.
You have not mentioned the district in Maharashtra, but certain regions of this state have soil with a higher potassium content. Also, the toor plant is leguminous and helps in naturally fixing nitrogen in the soil. So out of the N, P, K fertilisers, your friend may not need the N- and P-based fertilisers. If you will provide more details of where exactly his and your land is located and what crops you grow, we can give more constructive advice on required crop nutrition.
